Chichen Itza

The pyramid of Chichen Itza is one of the seven new wonders of the world and is the most famous Mayan city because of its interesting and amazing culture. It was founded by Mayan groups between the years 325 and 550 AD. Around the year 800, the Toltecs invaded the area, causing the fusion of the two cultures. Thus, the city reached its peak and became the most powerful of the Yucatan Peninsula in the early twelfth century. In the part called Toltec you can admire "el Castillo" (the castle) is the pyramid where the feathered serpent appears during the equinoxes, the terrain of the game's biggest ball of Mesoamerica, the "cenote sagrado" (sacred cenote) which is the cenote of sacrifice most important Maya; you can see the ossuary, the famous observatory "El Caracol" (snail), buildings, nuns and church.
